How To Unlock Bootloader Tutorial (Step by Step Guide) – Sony Xperia™ Devices

Unlock Bootloader In Easy Way

There is a lot of steps and guidelines that you can unlock the bootloader of your Android Device, and one of the main reason for this is to customize Sony Xperia ROM or Custom ROM flashing, to start with please follow the steps provided below.

  1. Dial the *#*#7378423#*#* using your device and this will open the service menu of your Sony Xperia.
  2. Now on the service menu just choose or tap the Service info>Configuration>Rooting Status – Now if the bootloader of your device is allowed and says YES then you can proceed to the next Steps, and vice versa if it says NO, well, I am sorry to tell you that your device is not eligible to unlock bootloader.

The steps above is the process wherein you can identify whether your Sony Xperia device is eligible for Unlocking Bootloader, now the next thing we need to do is to download the required tools for your Windows PC, Linux and or OSX.

  1. If you are new on this process, you might need to install the required USB Drivers in order for you to successfully do the process.
    • If you are running Windows: Download and install the latest USB driversFollow the instructions on the site.
    • If you’re running OSX or Linux: You can skip this step since no additional drivers are required.
  2. Download and extract the Platform-tools zip file. Note: Platform tools 26.0.2 or older are required.
    • Select and download the Platform tools for your operating system and extract the zip file. Tip: Take note of the installation path, you may need to access specific files later.
  3. On your device, turn on USB debugging by going to Settings > Developer options and click to enable USB debugging.
    • If your device is Android Jelly Bean 4.2 or newer: Developer options are hidden by default. To enable, tap on Settings > About Phone > Build Version multiple times. Then, turn on USB debugging by going to Settings > Developer options.

Now that you have USB drivers install from your PC, and you have that Platform Tools next thing you need to do is to make sure that you enable the USB debugging which can be seen on your device Settings, if the developer’s option is not yet available on your settings just go to your About Phone then from their tap the Build Version until you see a notification that prompt or says “you are now a developer”.

If the step or process above is successfully followed, then next thing you need to do is to connect into fastboot, take note that you must ensure that all of the process/step provided above is successfully done, just always double check your work before proceeding to the next step below.

  1. Turn off your device.
  2. Connect a USB-cable to your computer.
  3. On your device, press the Fastboot key (Volume up for most devices, see Useful key combinations) at the same time as you connect the other end of the USB-cable.
